HUMAN GARDEN

Area about 60 m2

Gloves “planted” in rows at regular distances had a symbolic meaning. They represented people as a group of machines devoid of personality, existing close to the others but having no relations with each other. A glove as an item used for keeping a barrier in a direct contact with reality has its owner – Mr./Mrs. A, B or C. However, from plates attached to the rubber plants, it appears that their owners are very much the same. Regular distances kept among identical gloves highlight stiff behavioural patterns of an individual’s life that is clearly visible today.

Realization: 2006

Installation was located on one of the fields of a village where people were displaced from, situated in the vicinity of an opencast area of Bełchatów Brown Coal Mine.
